Grade 5 catering

Grade 5 parents are central to Rhenish's public relations as they welcome visitors to our school during sports events with refreshments and a smile. To volunteer to assist with hosting and/or making sandwiches, please contact lizette.swanepoel@gmail.com.

Staffroom teas

To show our great appreciation of all the hard work the teachers do to educate and support our children, PTA volunteers provide some plates of delicious eats every Friday morning for staff tea. If there are sufficient volunteers, each person is only asked to assist on one day for the whole year. Eats are delivered to the staff kitchen before 09h00. Two moms share this duty, catering for 60 in total. Each mom, therefore, caters for 30, they need only be bite size snacks. Some suggestions: muffins, sandwiches, quickes, meringues, biscuits, cakes, etc. You are welcome to call the mom on duty with you to discuss what each of you will provide.

If you need to change your date, please call another mom on the list to swop.

Any queries, phone Jenny Boyes at 084 666 0111 or Jenny Joubert at 082 896 3437.

Flowers

The PTA arranges fresh flowers for the foyer and principal’s office every Monday morning. There are three arrangements required per week. This duty is divided between two people, one doing a larger arrangement for the foyer and the other, two smaller arrangements for the principal's office and the staffroom. Vases are available to be used. These are stored in the staff kitchen cupboards (ask secretaries if unsure). If you prefer to, you could bring your own vase from home with the arrangement already done. Please deliver anytime on a Monday morning.

If you need to change your date, please call another mom on the list to swop.

Any queries, phone Jenny Boyes at 084 666 0111 or Jenny Joubert at 082 896 3437.

School gardens
Have you got green fingers or just enjoy working in the garden. We are looking for volunteers to join the PTA gardening team, who help keep the school gardens neat and attractive, with special areas for our children to play.

Guest speaker series
The PTA organises guest speakers (usually one speaker scheduled per term) to talk on useful topics relevant to primary school aged children for parents, care givers, and the school staff. Attendance is free* as it is sponsored by funds raised through the MySchool Programme. The PTA organises independent (unaffiliated with the school) child sitters at the school for children 4 years old and up to assist families and allow the teaching staff the opportunity to attend. A small donation (R10 ) for this service is appreciated to off-set the additional costs.

Recent speakers:

  • Gavin Keller: the
differences between how boys and girls think and learn (“Pink Brain-Blue Brain”)
  • Arthur Preston: the benefits and challenges of growing up and parenting in a digital world (“A Brave New World—Navigating a way forward”)
  • Simon Hurry: the link between self-confidence and future success (“Growing Confident Kids”).
